Let’s admit it: 2020 was unexpected in every way possible. It’s like our lives turned into a well-made thriller for a whole year except there wasn’t even that background music that tells you something is about to happen.
It’s fair to say that this year was an absolute challenge, but we made it through by not just surviving but also thriving and exceeding our own expectations.
Now it’s December and we’ve made it to the credits!

1.We Made It to Web Summit 2020 Startup Programme!
We attended Europe’s biggest technology conference this year and even got the opportunity to introduce the world to Startups Galaxy! In case you don’t know just how big Web Summit is, keep these numbers in mind: Web Summit included 2,500+ startups, 800+ speakers, 1,250+ investors, 2,000+ journalists, and 100,000+ attendees from 150+ countries.

2. We’re Beta Testing Agencies Galaxy!
Agencies Galaxy is Startups Galaxy’s newest product. It is all about supporting agencies signing up to Startups Galaxy with their growth. Agencies Galaxy will include services such as: promoting top agencies and providing them with a ranking system, portfolio showcasing, matchmaking startups with the best-recommended agency and also, account management and vetting services for bigger companies.

3. We Attended Women of MENA in Tech Conference
We attended Women of MENA in Tech conference back in November 2020 which aims to support and empower women working in STEM fields education, mentorship, providing career opportunities, and entrepreneurism.

4. We Nailed It at Techila Con!
Techila Con was a series of tech events, which was the result of a collaboration between Startups Galaxy and Code Geist. There were multiple partners in this event, which started with Techila Con Online in June 2020, like EGDroid, Swift Camp, Ministry of Testing, The Product Guys, and Startups Without Borders.
The groundbreaking event was attended by more than 1.5K attendees, with dozens of speakers including Johannes Radig; 500 Startup Mentor & Growth Marketing Consultant, Hany Barakat; Engineering Manager at Facebook, Maha Aboulenien; PR Expert and EVP of Vayner Media (Gary Vee), Roberto Crocei; Regional Managing Director for Microsoft for Startups, Selina Bieber; Senior Regional Director for Turkey, MENA and South Africa at GoDaddy, Riyadh Khalil; MEA Sales Manager at Adjust, Ahmed El Meleegy; Business Advisor at Instabug, and Arho Antilla; General Manager for Africa and Asia at Pipedrive.
Then an online gathering took place for 3 days for those interested in technology and e-commerce on October 15, 16, and 17.

1.Google Made Three New Important Updates to Its Products
Whether you’re a loyal Google customer or just use a few products, Google released some crucial updates this year. Between killing off a product, controversially changing another popular product completely, and adding a COVID-19 update to a third product, it’s more than fair to say Google was quite busy this year.

2. Pipedrive Made It to Unicorn State!
Reaching a company valuation of $1.5 billion with its latest majority investment from Vista Equity Partners, Pipedrive, the Estonian CRM platform has officially become the latest unicorn in Europe.

3. Facebook Launched Its Own Website Hosting Service

4. The Cairo Angels Syndicate Fund Was Launched
Cairo Angel launched the Fund to be a micro venture capital fund set to invest in early-stage startups in the entire MENA region, aiming to start investing in the first quarter of 2021 targeting startups in Pre-Series A looking to grow and expand.

5. 3 Startups Were Announced as Winners in Gemini Africa’s UPLIFT4GFF
Gemini Africa launched its initiative uplift4gff hoping to support startups in the entertainment industry with exposure, business, mentorship, and partnership opportunities.
The initiative came in collaboration with El Gouna Film Festival, and out of the selected 10 startups, three were announced as winners.

Twilio, one of the most successful cloud communication platforms has acquired Segment, a market-leading customer data platform for approximately $3.2B.
