Find out which startup directories are helpful for your Egyptian startup!
The entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region is growing, and Egypt is making quite a couple of headlines recently: we’ve got a large growth in the number of startups and also in ticket sizes for investment as well as frequency.
What’s a startup directory and what are the benefits?
That’s a website / platform / whatever you’d like to call it that basically lists the data for startups. Think Elmenus for startups. Some startup directories focus on just startups, and others include accelerators, incubators, people, investors, etc. Each startup has it’s own profile and there could be information such as features, demos, funding information, etc.
If you have a startup, PUT YOUR STARTUP EVERYWHERE! Simply being listed directories could get you opportunities and exposure. You will find that each directory has a different benefit to being there. Also there are 3 main pros to being on startup databases:
1) Opportunities and Trust
When you get “Googled” which happens by potential INVESTORS and partners, being listed on your ecosystem’s startup directory is helpful. Especially if they can see that it’s updated. Furthermore, potential partners, accelerators or incubators could be looking at searches as well and seeing how you turn up. It builds trust to with others to know you’re there. Also, all directories usually have a newsletter, or some kind of informative channel with opportunities. You’ll get to know about funding, investment, events and more just by having a profile.
2) Organic Exposure
If you’re not investing in organic marketing, having your profile on the directory is the easiest way to get organic traffic through search results. It could also help actually when potential customers are searching for similar services or for our competitors for you to pop up under the same list of “startup in food” , or “startups in health” for example. This helps especially if your competitors are also startups and have a higher market share. Directories are actually now ranked lower for search engines, especially if they are not super focused ones. That’s why you always need to have a good profile depending on which directory you’re putting your startup on.
Such websites are good date for the Middle East and Africa, which is new to the region. Being in a database can help position you on the map and bring you traffic, especially for those who didn’t hear about you before. They just saw you on a directory and checked you out!
