‘’ Where there is hope there is life .’-by Marcus Tullius Cicero
That’s what I remembered when we were at Nahdet el Mahrousa, such an amazing place that will unconsciously bring the good in you right away,.
Let me pause for a bit…who are Nahdet El Mahrousa?
Nahdet El Mahrousa is the first incubator of early stage social startups in the Middle East and the region, has incubated over 70 social startups in areas such as youth development, education and employment, health services, and environment. Nahdet El Mahrousa’s programs have included a wide range of partners, including Sawiris Foundation for Social Development, Misr ElKheir, Yahoo! Maktoob, the MasterCard Foundation, the Ford Foundation, UNICEF, USAID, UNDP and Samsung Electronics.
Overall anything that would help the society development, and they offer their services for free. Social enterprises get every piece of advice it needs to grow and expand Nahdet El Mahrousa stand for the community and develop Egypt with no financial needs. Currently they are running a growth state program.
How do they select the startups to work with?
First and the most important thing, you must have a social cause. They go through an interview process and enter a panel talk to pitch their social enterprise. It’s usually in front of a diverse group of board members, consultants, account managers and of course the donor, like Huevos.
Nahdet el Mahrousa Expands
Nahdet El Mahrousa are now expanding out to more governorates such as Suez. They’re continually expanding beyond Cairo and incubating social enterprises from different regions in Egypt. Nahdet El Mahrousa is aiming to affect more than 100 social enterprises per year!
Nahdet El Mahrousa is becoming more than just an incubator, and turning into a social platform that spreads social awareness, supports and influences social impact startups in Egypt. It is expanding beyond Cairo and supporting entrepreneurs in their ideas to defeat the social challenges Egypt faces. Such startups include Agrona and Cybertalents, incubated in their BOOST program.
Garage El Mahrousa
That’s another activity under Nahdet El Mahrousa. It targets the handicrafts and performing arts startups. An incubation round is currently being held and soon they may announce another call for more applicants for those working for more than 2 years.
